Terms of service

Last updated 19 August 2026. These terms describe IdentifyPhoto at identifyphoto.com as the site works today.

The service

IdentifyPhoto offers visual identification for general photos, household bugs, coins, and antiques. You upload a photo; we return a structured guess from a vision model. Entity guide pages (bugs, coins, antiques) are static reference. Featured Ads and site ads are optional paid placements. Accounts are optional unless you pay.

Not advice

Identifications are hypotheses. They are not a medical diagnosis, pest-control prescription, legal opinion, authentication, or dollar appraisal. Do not rely on them as the only basis for health, safety, purchase, or sale decisions. Coin and antique results are type/style guesses, not valuations. Bug results are not medical advice.

Free identifications

The published default is 3 free identifications per UTC day, counted against both a visitor cookie and your IP (whichever is higher). Repeating the same processed image from cache does not use another slot. The operator can change the numeric cap; the live site enforces whatever is configured. Do not automate or evade the cap.

Accounts

You may create an account with Google or email and password (self-hosted Supabase GoTrue). You are responsible for that login. Paid features require a signed-in account with an email address. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

Paid features

Prices are charged in USD through Stripe Checkout. Featured Ads at the top of the site use the same tiered pricing as sidebar ads: week one at $20, each additional week $1 less (for example, 3 weeks total $57). Each sidebar placement (homepage left, homepage right, identify-results) uses the same tiered run pricing. The Featured Ad header is exclusive (one run at a time). Homepage left and right are exclusive per week. Identify-results ads may rotate. You pick a start date and week count (1–10) as shown on the booking pages.

Request Community Help Identifying Photo features may include an optional prepaid bounty. Banner ads do not include a bounty. When the owner accepts a signed-in guess on such a feature, 70% is meant for the solver via Stripe Connect and 30% stays with IdentifyPhoto. Solvers must complete Stripe onboarding to receive a transfer. Guesses without an account cannot win a bounty.

Ads may include an optional hand-crafted image: $100 for a 5-day IAB-sized banner, or $400 rush (24 hours, 5K master). Artists may use AI tools. There is no trademark or legal review. If we cannot complete the image, we are late, or the quality is not acceptable, you get a full refund of the image fee. If the banner never ran because no creative was delivered, unused ad weeks are refunded with that image fee. After delivery, automatic refunds do not apply; contact us through the site if quality is unacceptable.

We do not store your full card number. Stripe’s terms apply on Checkout. Paid slots are generally non-refundable except for the image-fee rule above and whatever Stripe or the law requires.

Your photos and ads

Identify uploads are used only to produce that result (and short-lived cache/logs as described in the privacy policy). Photos and ad creatives you pay to publish stay on our server so we can display them for the run. You keep ownership of your files. You grant IdentifyPhoto a licence to store, display, and deliver those files as needed to run Featured Ads, sidebar ads, and related pages. You must have the right to upload what you submit, and ads must not be illegal or misleading.

Prohibited use

Do not upload illegal content, malware, or others’ private photos without a right to do so. Do not attack, scrape at a volume that harms the service, evade the daily cap, or use identifications to harm people. We may refuse or remove content and bookings.

Our intellectual property

The IdentifyPhoto name, site design, prompts, and guide copy are ours (or used with permission). You may not copy the service as a competing product from our code or content. Model output is untrusted until validated; do not treat it as our warranty that a name is correct.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided as-is. Identification can be wrong or incomplete. To the extent the law allows, IdentifyPhoto is not liable for decisions you make from a result, for downtime, or for indirect or consequential loss. For paid features, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us for that booking, except where the law does not allow that limit (including the image-fee refund described above).

Changes

We may change the site or these terms. The date at the top is the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms for later use. Paid runs already started stay under the terms at purchase unless the law says otherwise.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator’s jurisdiction, without naming a US state or country we have not established here. If a court finds a clause unenforceable, the rest still applies.
